SUG JUDICIAL COUNCIL AND ELECTORAL COMMITTEE FACE OFF ON 100L STUDENTS DISENFRANCHISEMENT

OOU REPORTERS Adedapo Alayo The judicial council of the Student Union Government, Olabisi Onabanjo University earlier today, 12th of June gave a verdict that 100level students who prior to this period were not allowed to vote during SUG election will start voting starting from this Wednesday's election. The verdict which was given after a Court proceeding held at the Moot Court was reported to have the backing of both the acting VC and the Dean of Student affairs. However, in a press release signed by the chairman of SUG Electoral Committee, Sen. Yusuf Abdulhazeem and the Committee's General Secretary Sen. Dickson Victor, the verdict of the Judicial Council was declared Null and Void. The committee states that the constitution of the Union states that a student must have at least spend an academic session in the University before he/she can be eligible to vote and be voted for. The press release also states that only the electoral committee has the power to make decisions on any Union's election. Whose decision would supersede will be seen on or before Wednesday's election.
