The electoral committee chairman, Senator Yusuf Abdulhazeem Olayinka in a short interview with OOUReporters stated that the non provision for 100level students voting as a result of the judicial council ruling is the main reason for the postponement of the election earlier stated to hold on Wednesday, 14th of June, 2017.

He maintained that the ruling is not accepted by the electoral committee stating that there was no quorum formed at the beginning of the court session. The quorum according to the constitution, he said is seven justices with four of them coming from the other colleges/faculty other than law. He also said decision that will be made during the court session according to the section 38(9) of the constitution shall be that of simple majority and he also stated the day the court decision was made was a public holiday. Therefore, there's no validity in the court decision.

On the new election date, he said the election will hold three weeks after the commencement of next session.
