From Our Reporter

Non Academic union of Nigerian public universities comprising of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian universities (SSANU), Non- Academic staff union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists(NAAT) have agreed to embark on a five days  warning strike from Monday January 16th.

The Joint Action Committee(JAC) of the unions in a statement stated that the unions had no choice than to embark on the strike following the federal government refusal to implement the 2009 agreement between both parties.

The Joint action Committee said that a letter, signed by the SSANU president,Samson Ugwoke, NAAT president Sani Suleiman and NASU president Chris Ani has been sent to the minister of education.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the minister of labour and employment, the national universities commission and the Nigeria labour Congress.

The statement quoted the Union committee as saying " the university system is challenged by poor governance and administrative lapses which needs to be addressed holistically. "Poor funding of our universities, shortfall in payment of staff salaries, increasing corruption in the university system should be addressed. The problems of inadequate physical structure and abandoned projects also need to be addressed".

Late last year, the Academic Staff Union of university (ASUU) embarked on a warning strike which was later suspended.
