BEYOND SCHOOL CERTIFICATE (Bsc)

Belated Happy New Year to you, I am sorry it is coming late. However, this fact can never be late, "one day, very soon  you will join the league of graduates". 

Have you ever stopped to think of the popular song most graduates do sing? ''There is no job out there''. Do you often wonder  if it is true? Sit back and watch till you graduate, it would amaze you that the ocean is truly deep.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) latest result stated that 'Nigeria Unemployment rate is 13.9% compared to Djibouti's 50% (highest in the world) and Qatar's 0.1% (the lowest in the world)'. 

A research conducted by Asuquo and Agboola, 2014 published in American Journal of Educational Research titled ''Nigerian Universities outputs and their employability in the labour market in South  South Nigeria'' also butressed the fact, quoted ''Employability of Nigerian Universities output based on the responses of their employers was significantly below average". 

The researchers argued that  the University curriculum should be ameliorated to make its graduates employable, meaning all graduates need to graduate with qualifications beyond School Certificate, (BSC) and not just the graphic designed paper students strive for.

In case you don't know, youth unemployment rate has increased from 24% to 25% in 2016, the Labour force only increased by 1% and employment rate by 0.6%. Unemployed graduates is estimated at 45.72%: a result of survey conducted on Jobberman.

Surprisingly, in spite of our country's population, the 9th most populous country in the world with 182.2 million people. Its unemployment rate is lesser than that of countries like South Africa (54.96 million people, 27.10% unemployed). It is also worth knowing that about 39% of Nigeria's middle class are self - employed and this group consist of about 31% graduates.

An import dependent country still having these oustanding stats?! Then there are millions of opportunities unexplored. Your school certificate will never make you see or explore these opportunities, rather it will help keep the statistic status quo or increase the current figures for worse.

Nigeria and your future needs your BSC. You have a lot of things to aid your success, millions of dreams you can execute. Forget the government and find yourself. 

With the country's population, you have more than enough market for any product or service of yours, caveat your thinking and methodology must be BEYOND SCHOOL CERTIFICATE (BSC).

Take this simple quiz to know if all you are is BEYOND SCHOOL CERTIFICATE:

1. Write what you are currently studying

2. List all the things you can do at present with what you have learnt so far with what you are studying.

3. List things that you can do aside what you are currently studying.

4. Compare list 2 and 3.

5. List the number of jobs you can do efficiently with each (2 and 3) list.

Grading: If your list 3 is not up to ten, you need to buckle up. Your list three is the measure of your BSC strength.
