A COURSE OR A CURSE
- Sobowale Rasheed (Trivalence)
Admissions offered every year are either a course or curse depending on the student. A lot of childhood dreams were shattered upon admission (I am a victim and good testimony).
From every destroyed dream, there is always a redrawn dream. You being the artist, you determine what to redraw; good or bad.
'What are you studying?' was a question I hate answering in my first year. I was a victim of 'OSU gave me' course. The results of my emotional trauma knew no boundary; I hated myself, hated everyone around me and wholeheartedly hated the school. I couldn't reject the admission because I did not want to sit at home and was also lured with the hope that I can change my course after my first year if I have a good CGPA - I discovered this is impossible for my aspired course.
Whose fault was all these? Mine? I would've picked up a fight if I was told it is mine back then. This stupidity cursed me throughout my stay in school until I realised, it is not what happened that really matters rather how we handled what happened. There are things in life we can not control but we have veto on how we react to them.
There are lot of Students like me on Campus - lucky are you if you are one and reading this. It is the summary of my OOU odyssey. At the end, I am glad I studied the course I considered a curse at first. In the search of myself in my frustrated world, I discovered I am made for something more than my 'nah only you I want' aspired course.
Your offered course is a blessing in disguise, get lost in it to find yourself. It is only at this time that you can be convinced that no matter what, only your aspired course can make you happy - you can always find a way to get it. Most of the time you will discover you do not really need the aspired course.
You are the only one that can define what you are studying, a course or curse? Adopt the philosophy 'Anything worth doing is worth doing well!'. Sometimes, a studied course is nothing but a curse with a formal title but most of the time, it is a blessing in disguise.
