Nigeria won their third AFCON four years ago in South Africa

Africa's biggest football event,the nations cup will kick off today in Gabon, and for the second time in five years, Nigeria won't be participating in the tournament. 

After Chad withdrawn from the qualifying round citing lacks of funds,Nigeria were in a tight corner,and a 1-0 defeat to Egypt in Alexanderia sealed their unfortunate fate Millions of Nigerians will be disappointed that the 2013 champions won't be participating in this year edition,giving the fact that Football is one of the few things(if not the only thing) that unites this country. Me personally would love to see the new generation stars of Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho,Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo in action,but in truth missing out of the tournament is a huge blessing.

The AFCON is a big tournament and any team that wishes to perform well must prepare well . 

And given that Nigeria economy is in recession,there is no need spending so much money on a event we aren't sure of winning. 

Don't get me wrong, we have the players that can win it,but the sport sector like every other sector of the nation us being run by incompetent people who take joy in satisfying their own self desire at the expense of the mass. 

The ugly and shameful incidents that occurred during and after the Rio Olympics football tournament is an example not forgetting the famous super falcons protest to the national assembly after winning the women cup of nations The money meant for AFCON can be used for better things that will benefit the nation.

Let's just endure the taunting from our rivals,and enjoy the tournament while we can. Russia 2018 isn't an impossible mission after all.
