IKENNE STUDENTS CALL FOR A BETTER TRANSPORT SCHEME

Kehinde Adebayo

The plight of students at Ikenne campus to secure means of transport to and from the campus has gotten to the climax.

It is often a familiar sight to see students in large numbers infront of the school gate by the roadside waiting endlessly for passing vehicles to convey them to their various destinations.

The waiting could last for thirty minutes or more before they get any means of transport.

In the morning the story is very much the same or even worse, as students most especially ones coming from Sagamu struggle to get cab, even at car parks, as drivers would simply pass by, prefering to carry passengers going to Ikenne township.

The waiting in the morning could last for 45 minutes; it's as worse as that, unless they settle for OKADA, which is twice the transport fare compared to cabs.

This has been going on for so long, but it has got to the possible climax now. We plead with the school authority and the Students' Union Government to come to the aid of students who are going through difficulty seeking transport to and from the campus.

The possibility of getting to school early for 8 0'clock lecture is fast becoming a mirage to both students and lecturers.

And, the inherent danger in waiting for free ride by most female student should be a major concern, as we do not pray for any unfortunate incident of kidnap or missing students.

Students urge the SUG and the very understanding school authorities, to delve into this matter and take appropriate and constructive steps to relieve students of this difficulty.

Presently there is no effective transport scheme for Ikenne campus.  "Please save our soul we cry!" laments the students.
